ZLA Limelight: Burbank and Van Nuys

Starting on Thursday, December 4 at 17:00 PST (0000Z) and ending at 20:00 PDT (0300Z)

ZLA Limelight features Bob Hope (ICAO:KBUR) and Van Nuys Airports (ICAO:KVNY). The BUR TRACON offers controllers a challenging opportunity to push tin within a relatively small area with two major airports so close in proximity to each other.

KBUR is a class C airport that sees large commercial carriers such as Alaska, JetBlue, Delta, Allegiant, Southwest and American Airlines. Not to mention tons of general aviation.

KVNY is also known as the "airport to the stars". Hollywood actors prefer this more low-key airport and many of the lucky ones who own private planes park them here. During large entertainment events such as the Academy Awards and the Emmys, KVNY sees the lion's share of traffic in SoCal. KVNY is also the home of the famous "RWY 16R" that was lovingly featured in the documentary bearing its namesake. Like its famous clientele, it's befitting that this is probably the most famous runway in all of SoCal.
