Initially using the identifier "DXZ," St. George Airport (SGU) opened in the early 21st century to replace an older air field in the region that also was called "SGU." In 2025 construction of a new FCT (Federal Contract Tower) began along with terminal expansion to accommodate the growing city and region. Along with the new airport a new LDA and VOR were commissioned which serves as the basis of its conventional procedures. Later, RNAV (GPS) procedures were also added.
The LDA at St. George has a glideslope, and a slightly steeper 3.10 degree slope, but is not aligned with the runway and therefore is not an ILS. However it does contain straight-in minimums.
